Kacey Fifield writes music that speaks to her fans. Her newest EP “Nostalgia Haunts Me” is a collection of singles looking back on her time in high school which wasn’t that long ago! Kacey just finished her freshman year of college in New York all while she was working on new music and performing all over Los Angeles and New York. I caught Kacey in between gigs to get the scoop about her music career.
1. When did you first start making music?
I’ve been singing and writing songs for as long as I can remember, but I first started voice lessons and actually recording my music when I was 10!
2. What influences have inspired your sound the most?
I grew up listening to Taylor Swift and watching shows like Big Time Rush and Victorious which had a lot of music central to the storyline, so those were definitely my earliest influences. Lyrically, I’m super inspired by my experiences and my friends’ experiences. Sonically, I’m always going to be inspired by who I’m listening to. Recently, it’s been a lot of Chappell Roan, The Smiths, Lorde, Maude Latour, Clairo, Conan Gray, Gracie Abrams, Sabrina Carpenter, Between Friends, The Weeknd, and The Strokes. A bit all over the place!
3. Is there a constant meaning or message behind your music?
My music is always somehow related to my life, experiences, or ideas. I wouldn’t say there’s always a consistent meaning, but my recent EP “Nostalgia Haunts Me,” for instance, was very reflective of my high school experience. The song “Left Behind” expresses the feelings of being simultaneously afraid of the future and stuck in the past while “Never Reply” sarcastically comments on wishing a certain toxic person out of your life for good. So similar ideas thematically, but not the exact same message.
4. What advice would you give to new artists?
As cliche as it sounds, don’t give up! There are truly so many roadblocks, ups, and downs in the music industry, so you just have to keep pushing and focus on creating music that you like for the sake of artistry rather than focusing on metric-based successes. You’re succeeding as long as you’re creating something you feel proud of!

5. What has been your best moment as a musician so far?
So far, my best moments have been every time a listener tells me that one of my songs connected with them or helped them in one way or another. I know how special listening to my favorite music is to me so it means the world that my music can provide that kind of solace for someone!
6. What do you like most about playing music?
I love performing live! For the past year, I’ve been playing a bunch of 30-minute-long live shows with a full band accompanying me and it’s been the coolest thing ever. Performing is always so fun and connecting with people who enjoy my music is truly magic.
7. What is the hardest part about being a musician?
It’s so hard to break through in the music industry – it can get really discouraging when successes feel few and far between. I just remind myself the reason I make music: to express myself and hopefully make listeners feel understood!
8. Where can fans follow you on social media?
You can find me on Instagram @kaceyfifield which is the main platform I use to announce important updates like new music, shows, or merch. I’m also on TikTok (@kacey_fifield), Facebook (@KC Fifield), YouTube (@Kacey Fifield) and X (@kaceyfifield).
