A generational curse breaker and the first in his lineage to pursue an artistic path, Frankie draws from his multicultural heritage as the great-grandson of Colombian President Deogracias Fonseca and his Nova Scotia Mi’kmaq roots, infusing his music with resilience and defiance. “I wrote this album as a map through the chaos of transformation,” says Fonseca. “Astrological retrogrades mirror what it means to undo inherited patterns and create your own identity, especially as a trans person.” This album turns those challenges into art that speaks to healing and breaking free from invisibility.” Frankie also hand-paints his album covers, avoiding traditional tools to create tactile expressions of his music’s themes. These striking visuals extend the emotional depth of the songs, making Retrograde a multidimensional artistic experience.

Known for celestial metaphors rooted in his background as an astrologer, Frankie’s work connects personal experiences of resilience and heartbreak to broader struggles for visibility and equity. The single “Venus Opposite Mars” examines the tension between love and conflict, while the title track reflects on revisiting the past to move forward.
